Grecycle One of the biggest problems facing Montgomery's sanitary sewer system is common fats, oils and grease (FOG) generated from cooking. FOG is not meant to be poured down the drain. FOG in liquid form may not appear to be harmful, but as it cools it becomes a solid. FOG sticks to the inner lining of sewer pipes restricting flow and, eventually blocks the sewer pipes preventing the pipes' proper operation. A clogged sewer pipe due to FOG is a risk to public health, the environment and the wastewater treatment facility. A clogged sewer pipe can be expensive for the resident, it can lead to major plumbing repairs and higher sewer bills. Montgomery residents have a free environmentally friendly option for this used FOG.
